Throughout the span of a woman’s life, her breasts end up going through several different changes. Breasts that were once full can lose their youthful shape due to factors such as pregnancy, weight loss, or the natural effects of aging. Women who experience a loss of volume in their breasts—or who are unhappy with their current size—can often feel self-conscious about their appearance and figure. Breast augmentation Kansas City has been a successful plastic surgery procedure to help restore women’s self-confidence and give them the feminine figure that they desire. With nearly three hundred thousand surgeries performed each year, breast implants can be a life-changing option for you as well.
Deciding to Undergo Breast Augmentation
As a female plastic surgeon and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Aylward understands first-hand what a woman’s breasts mean for the way she feels about herself and her body. Breast implants are not only a way to enhance the appearance of the breasts, but to also provide women with a figure they will love seeing in the mirror—helping to boost their self-confidence in a positive way.
Women choose breast augmentation surgery for many different reasons. There are those who never quite had the size or shape they desired due to a lack of development of breast tissue. Others are looking to address changes that have occurred due to pregnancy, breast feeding, or weight loss. Asymmetry of the breasts and congenital defects can also be corrected using breast implants, and the surgery can even give breast cancer survivors back their feminine figure after a mastectomy with breast reconstruction.
The highly personalizable nature of the procedure allows for many different women to achieve their own specific goals. During your consultation with Dr. Aylward, the two of you will discuss and outline your surgery based on your expectations, goals, and current physical state.
You will be given several choices regarding your augmentation, including:
- Type of breast implant (silicone or saline)
- Breast implant size, shape and profile
- Incision location
- Placement (submuscular or subglandular)
We will provide you with needed information and recommendations so you are confident about making an informed decision for your procedure.
Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
When you come in for your surgery, the Truman team will make sure you are comfortable and ready for your breast augmentation. We will begin your procedure by administering a general anesthesia that will keep you comfortably sedated through the surgery. A careful incision will then be made in the area discussed during your consultation. Our surgical team performs most breast augmentations using a discreet incision along the crease below the breast, but other incision types may be possible depending on your body. Your chosen implants are then put into place and your incisions are closed. Immediately after your surgery, the Truman surgical team will dress your incision locations with gauze and place surgical drains as necessary. About an hour or two after your surgery, you will be able to return home under the care of a loved one.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Recovering from your breast surgery will take some time. You may experience some soreness or discomfort following your procedure, but this should fade over the next day or so and can be managed using medication. You will be provided with a special compression garment or a surgical bra to help ensure proper healing and reduce swelling of the breasts. Most women are able to return to work after about two days, however, it is important to limit yourself to lighter activity and avoid lifting heavy objects.
As you continue to heal, any bruising or swelling will dissipate and your scars will fade away. Seeing your final results for the first time can be an extremely rewarding experience. Our goal is to provide each of our patients with beautiful and natural looking results that meet their expectations.
