Fat Reduction Surgery

Losing those last few pounds of stubborn fat isn’t easy. After all, that is why it’s called stubborn fat. Women often struggle with excess fat causing areas like the inner or outer thighs to feel too big, and men face battles with love handles no matter their age. Heredity and the natural effects of aging are also contributing factors to problem fat. If diet and exercise aren’t doing enough to get rid of localized areas of fat, liposuction in Kansas City with Truman Medical Center Plastic Surgery can help give you the slimmer, healthier looking body you want.

Deciding to Undergo Liposuction in Kansas City

The older you get, the more difficult it becomes to get rid of those bothersome love handles or that stomach bulge you’re stuck carrying around. From the extended hours of sitting all day in an office to a slowing metabolism, it can often feel as though our lives are fighting against us in the battle to lose weight.

It can become extremely frustrating when—despite your dedication to spending time in the gym and eating right—the fat simply will not come off certain areas such as the hips, abdomen, or even the face. Our bodies simply become more resistant to traditional weight loss methods with age, and this can make it extremely difficult to achieve the results you want.

However, it is important to continue working out and sticking to a well-balanced diet in order to maintain proper health. Dr. Aylward and Truman’s surgical team stress that liposuction is not to be used as a method of weight loss or answer to obesity. If you have considered liposuction and are right for the procedure, it is more than okay to do something for yourself, especially if it will make you feel better every time you look into the mirror. Our liposuction patients often experience a life-changing boost to their self-confidence and are happier and motivated to continue making healthy life decisions.

Your Liposuction Procedure

The Truman team can perform liposuction in Kansas City to reduce fatty deposits in various areas throughout the body including the:

  • Face, neck and chin
  • Chest
  • Arms
  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs

In order to remove the fat, a thin instrument known as a cannula is connected to a surgical vacuum. Dr. Aylward and our experienced surgical team will make a tiny incision near the treatment site and insert the other end of the cannula through the skin and into the underlying layer of fat. The treated area will be anesthetized with a dilute local anesthetic known as tumescent solution. This will minimize bleeding and pain while also helping with a speedy recovery. The cannula is then carefully maneuvered to break up the fat layer and suction it out of the body. Once the fat cells are gone, they are gone for good. We will continue to remove fat until the desired shape is achieved.

Liposuction Recovery

Upon completion of your procedure, your Truman surgical team will provide you with a special surgical compression garment to be worn over your treatment site. This helps ensure even healing and minimizes the risk of other complications. Most patients are able to return to work within a week or two following their procedure. Of course, this will depend on factors such as the number of treated areas, which areas were treated, and how much fat was removed.

The great thing about liposuction is that the incisions are typically very small and normally hardly visible when they heal. You will notice an immediate change in the shape of your body and will want to begin restocking your wardrobe as soon as possible to showcase your new figure. Patients often feel more self-confident and are even inspired to maintain a healthy lifestyle so they can continue to enjoy their healthy figure for many years to come.
